Byron Patrick Hurt (born December 31, 1969) is an American activist, speaker, writer, and award-winning documentary filmmaker. He makes movies that explore important social topics.

In 2010, he hosted a TV show called Reel Works with Byron Hurt, which was nominated for an Emmy Award. His documentary Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes was first shown at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. It later aired on PBS in 2007, reaching many viewers across the country.

Byron Hurt is currently working on a new documentary called Hazing: How Badly Do You Want In. This film looks closely at the culture of hazing, especially after sad events where young people have died because of it.

About Byron Hurt

Byron Hurt went to Northwestern University where he studied journalism. While he was there, he also played American football as a quarterback. Before he graduated in 1993, he started his own company called God Bless the Child Productions.

After college, Northwestern University hired him to help create the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program. This program teaches people how to prevent violence. This experience inspired Byron Hurt to make his documentary I Am A Man: Black Masculinity in America. He also helped the United States Marine Corps with a program to prevent violence.

On September 30, 2006, Byron Hurt married Kenya Felice Crumel. They got married at their home in Plainfield, New Jersey.
