Bärbel Wöckel (born Bärbel Eckert on March 21, 1955) is a famous former East German sprinter. She was a very fast runner. She became well-known for her amazing speed.

Bärbel Wöckel was part of several relay teams. These teams set new world records. She ran in the 4 × 100 meters relay. Her teammates included Doris Maletzki, Renate Stecher, and Christina Heinich. Their last world record was set on September 8, 1974, in Rome.

At the GDR Championships, she won first place. This was in the 4 × 100-meter relay. She won in 1974, 1977, 1978, and from 1981 to 1984. In 1976, her team finished in third place.

Olympic Achievements

Bärbel Wöckel won four Olympic gold medals. She earned these medals in two different Olympic Games. She competed in the 200 meters race. She also ran in the 4 × 100 meters relay.

At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, she was outstanding. She won gold in the 200 meters race. She also won gold with her team in the 4 × 100 meters relay.

She repeated her success at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Again, she won gold in the 200 meters. Her 4 × 100 meters relay team also took home the gold medal.
