Cùl Mòr is a cool mountain in the far northwest of Scotland. It has two main peaks, making it look very unique. The higher of these peaks is the tallest point in an area called Inverpolly.
Even though Cùl Mòr is very tall, it's not as famous as its neighbors, Suilven and Stac Pollaidh. But because it's higher, you can get amazing views of these mountains and many others from its top! It stands almost completely separate from its southern neighbor, Cùl Beag.
Climbing Cùl Mòr
If you want to climb Cùl Mòr, the best place to start is from Knockan Crag. There's a parking spot there. From the parking area, a special path used by deer stalkers leads you towards the mountain. This path takes you to the bottom of a ridge called Meallan Diomhain.
The Main Climbing Route
As you climb the Meallan Diomhain ridge, you'll see small piles of stones called cairns. These cairns help mark the way so you don't get lost. Once you reach the top of this ridge, the most popular route turns right. You'll cross a wide, flat area between two peaks, like a saddle.
From there, you'll approach the summit from the northeast side. The very last part of the climb is quite steep. You'll need to do some scrambling, which means using your hands and feet to climb over big rocks and boulders. It's like a fun puzzle to get to the top!
Another Way Up
There's also a slightly longer way to reach the summit. This route goes through a bowl-shaped valley called a corrie. This corrie leads up to a low point between peaks, known as a col, called Creag nan Calman. This path is to the southwest of the main summit. Both routes offer an exciting adventure to the top of Cùl Mòr!
