Christian Devont'a Pelham, known as C. D. Pelham, was born on February 21, 1995. He is an American professional baseball player. He plays as a relief pitcher, which means he comes into the game after the starting pitcher. Pelham has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers. He is currently part of the Athletics baseball team organization.

C. D. Pelham's Early Baseball Journey

C. D. Pelham grew up in Lancaster, South Carolina. He went to Lancaster High School there. After high school, he wasn't chosen by any professional baseball teams. So, he decided to play college baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College.

After his first year of college, the Milwaukee Brewers picked him in the 2014 MLB draft. This was in the 25th round. However, Pelham chose not to sign a contract with them. Instead, he went back to college for his second year to continue playing and improving his skills.

Pelham's Professional Baseball Career

Starting with the Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers drafted C. D. Pelham in the 33rd round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. This time, he signed his first professional contract. He started his professional career in 2015 with the Arizona League Rangers. This team is part of the Rookie-level Arizona League, which is where many new players begin. He had a good start, winning 4 games and losing none.

In 2016, Pelham played for the Spokane Indians. This team is in the Low-A Northwest League. He pitched in 16 games, starting 7 of them.

Moving Up Through the Leagues

Pelham spent the 2017 season with the Hickory Crawdads. This team plays in the Single-A South Atlantic League. He had a strong year, winning 4 games and getting 75 strikeouts.

In 2018, Pelham started with the Down East Wood Ducks. They are in the High-A Carolina League. He pitched very well, with a low 1.95 ERA. Because of his good performance, he was promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders on June 22. This team is in the Double-A Texas League. He was also chosen to play in the 2018 All-Star Futures Game, which features top young players.

Reaching Major League Baseball

The Texas Rangers called Pelham up to Major League Baseball (MLB) for the first time on September 4, 2018. This was a big moment in his career. He played in 10 major league games that year. After the 2018 season, Pelham played in the Arizona Fall League for the Surprise Saguaros.

In 2019, Pelham split his time between the Frisco RoughRiders and the Nashville Sounds. The Sounds are a Triple-A team in the Pacific Coast League. Triple-A is the highest level before the major leagues. On November 20, 2019, the Rangers removed him from their main roster.

Time with the Chicago Cubs

On November 27, 2019, the Chicago Cubs claimed Pelham. This means they picked him up after the Rangers removed him from their roster. However, he was later removed from the Cubs' main roster on January 24, 2020.

Pelham did not play in any games in 2020. This was because the minor league baseball season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also missed the entire 2021 season because of an injury.

In 2022, Pelham returned to play. He appeared in 29 games for two Cubs minor league teams: the Double-A Tennessee Smokies and the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. He had a record of 2 wins and 1 loss. After the season, on November 10, 2022, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.

Playing for the San Diego Padres

On March 9, 2023, Pelham signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres organization. He played for three different Padres minor league teams that year. These included the Arizona Complex League Padres (rookie level), the Lake Elsinore Storm (Single-A), and the San Antonio Missions (Double-A). He recorded 2 saves during his time with the Padres. He became a free agent again on November 6, 2023.

Playing in Mexico with Leones de Yucatán

On March 29, 2024, Pelham signed with the Leones de Yucatán. This team plays in the Mexican League, which is a professional baseball league in Mexico. He had a very good performance there, with a low 1.04 ERA in 17 games.

Brief Time with the Los Angeles Angels

Because of his strong performance in Mexico, the Los Angeles Angels bought Pelham's contract on May 31, 2024. He was then sent to their Triple-A team, the Salt Lake Bees. He also played a few games for the Arizona Complex League Angels. He pitched well for the Angels' minor league teams. However, he was released by the Angels organization on July 28, 2024.

Joining the Athletics Organization

On January 8, 2025, C. D. Pelham signed a minor league contract with the Athletics. He will now be part of their organization, hoping to make it back to the major leagues.
