The Ca n'Oliver Iberian settlement is a very old village built by the Iberians. It's found in the Collserola mountains, in what is now Cerdanyola del Vallès, Catalonia, Spain. This important archaeological site was home to people between the 6th century BC and 50 BC. It was even used again much later, during the Middle Ages.

Life in the Iberian Settlement

The Ca n'Oliver settlement was first built by the Iberians. These were ancient people who lived in the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal). At first, the village had simple houses grouped together. They were built on a large piece of land.

Over time, the settlement grew bigger and more advanced. Houses became larger and more varied. This was a very successful period for the village. The Iberians built a special road to access the settlement. They also dug a moat for protection. A large area with many silos was created to store extra farm products. These products were then sold to other towns around the Mediterranean Sea.

Challenges and Changes

The settlement faced a major challenge around the end of the 3rd century BC or early 2nd century BC. It was destroyed during the Punic Wars. These were big wars between Rome and Carthage.

Even after this destruction, the Iberians rebuilt their village. However, when the Romans took over the area, they changed how the land was organized. Because of these changes, the Iberians eventually left the Ca n'Oliver settlement for good.

Many centuries later, in the 9th and 10th centuries, people returned to the site. They used some of the old Iberian buildings and silos. This was during the time known as the high Middle Ages.

Exploring the Museum

On October 1, 2010, the Ca n’Oliver Iberian Settlement and Museum officially opened. It is located in the settlement's old quarry. The museum shows many amazing objects found during the excavations. It helps visitors understand how the Iberians lived.

The museum is part of 'The Route of the Iberians'. This is a special cultural project by the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia. It helps people explore different Iberian sites.

The museum also has a modern Interpretation Center. This center helps spread knowledge about Iberian culture in Catalonia. It makes learning about this ancient civilization fun and easy to understand.
