Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı (born Hüseyin Cahit; October 4, 1910 – October 13, 1956) was a famous Turkish poet and writer. He is known for his beautiful poems that often talk about life, death, and love.

Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı was born in Diyarbakır, a city in Turkey, on October 4, 1910. He came from a well-known family in the area. His poems are still loved and read by many people today.

His Early Life and Education

Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı went to high school in Istanbul. He studied at St. Joseph High School and then at Galatasaray High School. After high school, he continued his studies at a university in Istanbul from 1931 to 1935.

He later traveled to Paris, France, to study more. However, he had to return to Turkey in 1940. This was because World War II had started, making it difficult to stay abroad.

His Career and Later Years

When he returned to Turkey, Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı started working as a translator. He worked for different government offices, including the national news agency, the Turkish Grain Board, and the Ministry of Labor. He helped translate important documents and news.

In 1951, he married Cavidan Tınaz. Sadly, in 1954, he became very ill and could not move parts of his body. Doctors in Turkey tried to help him, but his health did not improve.

To get better treatment, he traveled to Vienna, Austria. Unfortunately, he passed away in a hospital there on October 13, 1956. His body was brought back to Turkey and he was buried in Ankara.
