Early Life and Acting Start
Caleb Ross was born on December 10, 1981, in Whangārei, New Zealand. He was one of eight children in his family. Caleb became interested in acting when he was young. He loved watching the musical Les Misérables.
When he was just 9 years old, Caleb started performing in musical theater in his hometown. He joined the Whangarei Amateur Opera and Dramatics Society. With this group, he acted in stage shows such as Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and Peter Pan.
Caleb's father helped him find an acting agent. Soon after, Caleb got his first acting job. He appeared in a short film called Avondale Dogs in 1994. He also acted in a commercial for McDonald's. After that, he got small roles in TV shows like Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Plainclothes. He also appeared in the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street.
Starring in The Tribe
In 1999, Caleb Ross got his most famous role. He was cast as Lex in the science fiction teen drama The Tribe. The show was about a world where adults had disappeared, and children had to create their own societies.
Lex was a strong and sometimes difficult character at the start of the show. He was one of the main characters who opposed the heroes. However, his character later joined the "Mall Rats" tribe. He remained a complex character throughout the series.
Caleb was one of the few original actors who stayed on The Tribe for all five seasons. He appeared in almost every episode. He also sang the main vocals on the show's spin-off album, Abe Messiah. Lex was a very popular character, and many people believe Caleb's role helped make the show a big hit. He traveled to New Zealand and the United Kingdom to promote the show. In March 2001, he was even interviewed on the TV show The Big Breakfast.
After The Tribe
After The Tribe ended, Caleb Ross continued acting. He made guest appearances on TV shows like Mercy Peak and Revelations.
Caleb also worked behind the scenes. He helped with The New Tomorrow, which was a follow-up series to The Tribe. For this show, he worked as a foley artist. This means he created sound effects for the show. He was also a unit assistant for the 2004 movie Futile Attraction.
In September 2006, Caleb attended the 2006 Dragon*Con convention in Atlanta, Georgia. He met with other actors from The Tribe there, including Tom Hern (who played Ram) and Matt Robinson (who played Slade).
In recent years, Caleb Ross has been working on writing his own life story. He has also been involved in other TV and short film projects. For example, he had a small role in the 2007 film The Last Great Snail Chase. In that movie, he appeared alongside Michael Wesley-Smith, another actor from The Tribe. Caleb has also shared that he is interested in moving to Canada to continue his acting career.
