About Caleb Ross
Early Life and Acting Start
Caleb Ross was one of eight children. He was born in Whangārei, New Zealand. He became interested in acting after watching the musical Les Misérables.
When he was 9 years old, he started performing in musical theater. He joined the Whangarei Amateur Opera and Dramatics Society. He acted in plays like Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and Peter Pan.
His father helped him find an agent. Caleb then made his acting debut in 1994. It was a short film called Avondale Dogs. He also appeared in a commercial for McDonald's.
First TV Roles
Caleb soon got small roles on TV shows. These included Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. He also appeared in Plainclothes and Shortland Street.
When he was 14, he had his first on-screen kiss on Shortland Street.
Starring in The Tribe
In 1999, Caleb Ross was cast as Lex in The Tribe. This science fiction show was very popular with teens. Lex was a main character and an anti-hero.
Caleb was one of the few actors who appeared in all five seasons. He was also in almost every episode. He sang lead vocals on the show's album, Abe Messiah.
Lex was a very popular character. Many people believe Caleb's role helped make the show famous. He made many appearances to promote the show. In March 2001, he was interviewed on The Big Breakfast in the United Kingdom.
After The Tribe
After The Tribe ended, Caleb guest starred on Mercy Peak and Revelations. He also worked behind the scenes for The Tribe follow-up series, The New Tomorrow.
He worked as a foley artist for the series. This means he created sound effects. He was also a unit assistant for the 2004 film Futile Attraction.
In September 2006, Caleb attended the 2006 Dragon*Con convention. He was there with his Tribe co-stars Tom Hern and Matt Robinson. In 2002, he had an uncredited role as a Rohan Soldier in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
Recent Work and New Ventures
Caleb Ross has been working on publishing his autobiography. He has also appeared in other TV and short film projects. In 2007, he had a cameo appearance in The Last Great Snail Chase. He appeared with another Tribe actor, Michael Wesley-Smith.
Caleb had mentioned wanting to move to Canada to continue acting. In 2011, he appeared in the documentary The Last Dogs of Winter. This film won an award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
After that, he worked as a camera operator. He worked on ‘12 Dogs Drive-The Run Home’ (2018) and the TV series ‘Polar Bear Town’. Caleb has now retired from acting. He founded Nanuk Operations, which is a guiding expedition company. He also rents out camera equipment for film and TV productions in Canada.
