The Callimedusa perinesos is a special kind of frog. It is also known as the orange-spotted leaf frog because of its cool colors. This frog belongs to a group called Phyllomedusinae.

You can find this unique frog living on the slopes of the Andes mountains. These mountains are in the Amazon region of South America. Specifically, it lives in parts of Colombia and Ecuador.

Where It Lives

The orange-spotted leaf frog makes its home in forests high up in the mountains. These are called montane forests. It lives in both old, untouched forests and newer forests that have grown back.

These frogs live at high elevations. This means they are found far above sea level. They live between about 1,350 and 1,740 meters high. That's like being on top of a very tall skyscraper!

Its Home and Habits

When it's time to lay eggs, the female frog is very clever. She lays her eggs on leaves that are rolled up. These leaves are usually found hanging over small ponds or pools of water. When the tadpoles hatch, they drop right into the water below.

This frog is quite rare. You won't find many of them around.

Why It Needs Our Help

Sadly, the orange-spotted leaf frog is facing a big problem. Its home is disappearing! This is mostly because of habitat loss. People are cutting down the forests where these frogs live. This is called deforestation.

When forests are cut down, the special pools of water where the frogs lay their eggs also get destroyed. This makes it very hard for new frogs to be born. Because of this, the orange-spotted leaf frog needs our help to protect its home.
