Calmar is a small city located in Winneshiek County, Iowa, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,125 people lived there. Calmar is an important meeting point for several major roads. These include U.S. Route 52 and State highways 150 and 24.

History of Calmar
Calmar was first planned out in 1854. This means its streets and building lots were mapped. The city got its name from a city in Sweden, which is now spelled Kalmar.
The town grew a lot in 1868. This was when the railroad was built through Calmar. Having a railroad made it easier for people and goods to travel. Calmar officially became a city on July 14, 1869.

The city is part of the South Winneshiek Community School District. South Winneshiek High School is located right in Calmar. The elementary and middle schools for the district are in a nearby town called Ossian.
There is also a Catholic school system called CFS Catholic School. This school was formed by combining Catholic schools from Calmar, Festina, and Spillville.
