What is the Plain Mariposa Lily?
The plain mariposa lily is a perennial plant. This means it lives for more than two years. It is a type of herb. It grows a thin stem that usually does not branch out. This stem can reach up to 50 centimeters (about 20 inches) tall.
Leaves and Flowers
At the bottom of the plant, there is a long leaf. It can be 10 to 20 centimeters long. This leaf usually dries up when the plant starts to flower.
The plant has a group of flowers called an inflorescence. This group holds 1 to 6 upright, bell-shaped flowers. They grow in a loose cluster. Each flower has three sepals and three petals. The petals are usually white to light purple. They might have spots near their base. The outer parts of the petals can also have greenish stripes.
Fruit
After the flower blooms, it forms a fruit. This fruit is an angled capsule. It can grow up to 7 centimeters (about 2.8 inches) long.
