What Does the Yellow Star-Tulip Look Like?

The yellow star-tulip is a perennial herb. This means it is a plant that lives for more than two years. It also has soft, non-woody stems.

It grows a thin stem that can sometimes have branches. This stem can reach about 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) tall.

Leaves of the Plant

The main leaf of the plant grows from its base. This basal leaf can be 10 to 30 centimeters long. It stays green and does not dry up when the plant flowers. You might also see smaller leaves growing along the stem.

Yellow Star-Tulip Flowers

The plant produces 1 to 6 flowers on its stem. These flowers stand upright and are shaped like bells. Each flower has three pointed sepals. Sepals are like small leaves that protect the flower bud.

It also has three rounded petals. Both the sepals and petals are a bright to deep yellow color. The petals might have some dark reddish spots near their base. The inside of the petals is covered densely with soft yellow hairs.

Fruit of the Yellow Star-Tulip

After the flower blooms, it forms a fruit. This fruit is a winged capsule. A capsule is a dry fruit that opens to release seeds. The capsule is usually one or two centimeters long.
