Mixel Labéguerie was a doctor who lived in Cambo-les-Bains. He became a very important person in Basque culture and politics after World War II. He was elected mayor of the town three times, starting in 1965. Many people remember him as the person who helped start the Basque musical revival in the 1960s. He also helped create a Basque nationalist group called Embata. When he passed away in 1980, about 4,000 people attended his memorial service in Cambo.
