Early Life and College Basketball
Cameron Moore grew up and played high school basketball at Theodore Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas. After high school, he went on to play college basketball for four seasons. He played for the UAB Blazers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Cameron was a fantastic player in college. In his final year at UAB, he scored an average of 16.1 points per game. He also grabbed 10.5 rebounds per game, which means he was great at getting the ball after a shot. He was even named the Defensive Player of the Year for his conference, Conference USA. This award shows how good he was at stopping the other team from scoring.
Cameron also set some records at UAB. He had 28 "double-doubles," which means he scored double-digit points and had double-digit rebounds in the same game. This placed him second in UAB history for this achievement. He was also second in blocked shots, with 137 blocks. He was fourth in total rebounds, with 747 rebounds. Cameron was one of only three players at UAB to ever score more than 1,000 points and get more than 700 rebounds in their college career.
Professional Career
After college, Cameron Moore hoped to join the NBA. He was not chosen in the 2012 NBA draft, but he didn't give up.
Starting in Ukraine
In July 2012, Cameron joined the Los Angeles Clippers for the NBA Summer League. This is a special league where new players can show off their skills. After that, he signed his first professional contract. He joined a team called Ferro-ZNTU in Ukraine for the 2012–13 basketball season.
Playing in Italy
In July 2013, Cameron played in the NBA Summer League again, this time with the New Orleans Pelicans. Soon after, he signed with Juvecaserta Basket in Italy for the 2013–14 season.
The next year, in July 2014, he played in the NBA Summer League once more, this time for the New York Knicks. He then signed with another Italian team, Reyer Venezia Mestre, for the 2014–15 season. He played 10 games with Venezia, averaging 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. In December 2014, he left the team.
Time in the NBA G League
In March 2015, Cameron joined the Bakersfield Jam. This team was part of the NBA D-League, which is like a development league for the NBA.
Later that year, in May 2015, Cameron faced a serious health issue. He collapsed and was in a coma for a few hours. Doctors found that he had a condition called cardiomegaly, which means his heart was enlarged.
Later Career and Passing
Cameron did not play professional basketball during the 2015–16 season because of his health. In October 2016, he joined a team called AV Ohrid in North Macedonia. Sadly, on October 4, 2016, Cameron Moore passed away during his very first training session with the club.
