Camilla Joy Cynthia Power (born 13 November 1976) is an actress from Ireland and England. She is well-known for her roles in the TV shows Emmerdale and Waterloo Road. She also played Jill Pole in the BBC series The Silver Chair, which was based on a book by C. S. Lewis.
Early Life and Education
Camilla Power was born in Cork, Ireland, on November 13, 1976. She is a distant relative of the famous actor Tyrone Power. Her great-grandfather, Sir John Power, was a Member of Parliament before the Second World War.
Camilla attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone, London. She started acting when she was very young. Her first TV appearance was in a commercial for chicken nuggets. One of her first acting roles was as Sabina Halliday in the film A Summer Story (1988).
Acting Career
In 1990, Camilla appeared in the Channel 4 show The Manageress. That same year, she played Jill Pole in the BBC Television series The Silver Chair. This show was an adaptation of the popular book by C. S. Lewis.
She also had parts in other TV shows like Bonjour la Classe (1993) and Moonacre (1993). For her role in Moonacre, Camilla needed to be skilled at horse-riding. From 1993 to 1995, she was a regular cast member on the soap opera Emmerdale. She played the character Jessica McAllister.
Between 1997 and 1998, Camilla played Adele Bannerman in The Grand. This series was set in a hotel in Manchester during the 1920s. In 1998, she made her first appearance on stage in a play. It was an adaptation of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie at the National Theatre.
Camilla continued to act in various TV dramas. She was in Murder in Mind (2002) and the 2003 film Hornblower: Duty. In early 2008, she starred in an episode of Torchwood called "From Out of the Rain". She played Pearl, a circus star who seeks revenge.
She also appeared in the British action movie The Tournament as Sarah Hunter. In 2012, she was in two episodes of the ITV drama Whitechapel. The next year, 2013, she appeared in two episodes of Lewis and two episodes of Father Brown.
In 2016, Camilla was in "Shut Up and Dance". This was an episode of the TV series Black Mirror. More recently, in 2022, she played Agatha Jack in the TV series Trigger Point.
Personal Life
