Campo Grande Atlético Clube was founded on June 13, 1940. It quickly became an important part of local football.
Early Years and National Debut
In 1979, the club played in Brazil's top football league. This league is called the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Campo Grande finished in 27th place that year. They managed to reach the second stage of the competition.
Winning a National Title
The club achieved its biggest success in 1982. They won the Brazilian Second Division. This was their first and only national title. They beat CSA in the final match. Campo Grande's player, Luisinho, was the top scorer. He scored 10 goals in the tournament. Winning this title meant they were promoted. They moved up to the First Division for the next year.
Return to the Top League
In 1983, Campo Grande played in the Campeonato Brasileiro First Division again. They were eliminated in the first round. However, they won a playoff against Paysandu. This allowed them to reach the second stage. They finished last in their group. Overall, Campo Grande ended the competition in 24th place.
