Carlos Roberto de Oliveira (born April 13, 1954 – died January 8, 2023), known as Roberto Dinamite, was a famous Brazilian football player and later a politician. He was born in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro state.
Roberto Dinamite played as a centre forward for over twenty years. He is the player with the most games and most goals for Vasco da Gama. He also scored the most goals ever in the Brazilian Série A league. For the national team, Roberto Dinamite played in the 1978 and 1982 FIFA World Cups. He also played in the 1972 Olympic Games. After his football career, he became the president of Vasco da Gama from 2008 to 2014.

Roberto Dinamite's Amazing Football Career
Roberto Dinamite started his football journey in the youth team of Vasco da Gama. He became one of the most well-known players for the club. He is their all-time top goal scorer. He scored 698 goals just for Vasco da Gama. In his whole career, he scored 864 goals. He played 1022 matches in total, including both official and friendly games.
A journalist named Aparício Pires gave him the nickname "Dinamite." This happened after Roberto scored an amazing goal in his first professional game. It was on November 25, 1971, against Internacional at the Maracanã stadium. The journalist wrote that the "Dynamite-Boy detonates at Maracanã."
In 1989 and 1990, he played for Portuguesa in São Paulo state. He scored 11 goals for them.
His very last goal was on October 26, 1992. It was during a Campeonato Carioca match where Vasco da Gama beat Goytacaz 2–0. This game was played at São Januário Stadium.
Dinamite stopped playing football on March 24, 1993, when he was 39 years old. His final match was a friendly game where Deportivo de La Coruña from Spain beat Vasco da Gama 2–0. Another famous player, Zico, also played for Vasco in that match.
Playing for Brazil: The National Team
Roberto Dinamite played 47 matches (called caps) for the Brazil national team. He played between September 1975 and June 1984. He scored 25 goals in these games. This includes matches against other national teams, combined teams, and clubs.
He played 38 matches against other national teams and scored 20 goals. His first national team game was on September 30, 1975, when Peru beat Brazil 3–1. Roberto Dinamite scored his first goal for Brazil on May 23, 1976, when Brazil beat England 1–0. His last game for Brazil was on June 17, 1984. In that match, Brazil and Argentina tied 0–0.
Dinamite was a reserve player in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He scored three goals in that tournament. He was also a reserve player for Serginho in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. He was called to play by coach Telê Santana after another player, Careca, got injured.
Roberto Dinamite also played five matches for the Brazil Olympic team. All these games were in 1972. He scored one goal in his last Olympic match on August 11, 1972. In that game, Brazil and Tuna Luso tied 1–1.
Roberto Dinamite: From Player to Politician
After he stopped playing football, Roberto Dinamite started a new career in politics. In 1992, he joined the PSDB party. He ran for a seat in the State Assembly of Rio de Janeiro. He was elected with 34,893 votes. He was re-elected two more times after that.
As a member of the PMDB party, Roberto Dinamite was elected as a Rio de Janeiro state deputy again. He won elections in 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2006.
Roberto Dinamite also ran to become the president of Vasco da Gama football club in 2003 and 2006. He was finally elected president of Vasco da Gama on June 21, 2008.

Roberto Dinamite passed away in Rio de Janeiro on January 8, 2023. He was 68 years old. He had been battling intestinal cancer since 2021.
