Dadá Maravilha's Football Journey
Dadá Maravilha started his football career in 1965. He played for a small club called Campo Grande in Rio. His amazing skills quickly caught the attention of a scout. This scout worked for Atlético Mineiro, a big and well-known club. Dadá joined Atlético Mineiro in 1968.
Playing for Brazil's National Team
By 1969, Dadá was so popular that Brazil's President, Emílio Garrastazu Médici, asked the coach to include him. Dadá joined the national team for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. Even though he was part of the winning team, he didn't play much in the tournament. He played for Brazil a total of 6 times between 1970 and 1973.
Winning Championships with Clubs
In 1971, Dadá helped Atlético Mineiro win their first ever Brazilian Championship. He scored the only goal in the final match against Botafogo. He stayed with Atlético until 1973, then moved to Flamengo.
After a short return to Atlético, he played for Sport Club do Recife in 1974–75. There, he helped the team win the Pernambuco state championship. In April 1976, he scored an incredible 10 goals in one game! This was a record for Brazilian football in official matches.
Success with Internacional
In 1976, Internacional de Porto Alegre signed Dadá. This was one of the biggest player transfers in Brazil at the time. Some people thought Dadá was a bit slow, but he was amazing at finding the right spot to score. His goal-scoring ability made him one of the best strikers in Internacional's history.
He was the top scorer in the 1976 Brazilian Championship, with 16 goals. He even scored the first goal in the final match against Corinthians, which Internacional won 2–0.
Later Career and Famous Sayings
In 1977, Dadá joined Ponte Preta. He spent most of that year recovering from an illness. He returned to Atlético Mineiro for a short time in 1978–1979. From 1979 to 1986, he played for several other teams. He finally ended his career at Comercial Esporte Clube.
Dadá was known for his amazing goal-scoring talent and his friendly personality. Fans gave him many nicknames, like "Dario Peito-de-aço" (Iron Chest Dario) and "Dadá Beija-Flor" (Dadá the Hummingbird). The "Hummingbird" nickname came from his ability to jump high and seem to hang in the air.
He was also famous for his funny and confident statements before matches. He would even invent names for goals he was about to score! Dadá also created many famous sayings that Brazilian football fans still use today. One of his most famous quotes is: "There's no such thing as an ugly goal, what's ugly is not scoring."
