Campoona is a small place, called a 'locality', in South Australia, Australia. It is located on a big piece of land called the Eyre Peninsula. Campoona is about 253 kilometers (around 157 miles) north-west of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is also quite close, about 18 kilometers (11 miles) north-west, to a town called Cleve. The land where Campoona is located has been home to the Parnkalla Aboriginal Australians for a very long time.
About Campoona
Campoona officially got its name and its borders on December 23, 1998. Its borders are exactly the same as an older land division called the Hundred of Campoona. Both of these areas form a perfect square. This square covers about 100 square miles (which is about 259 square kilometers).
What Happens in Campoona?
The main activity in Campoona is farming. Farmers here grow large amounts of grains like wheat and barley. They also raise sheep. This type of farming is called broadacre farming.
Future Plans
There are plans for a new project in Campoona. A company called Archer Exploration Limited wants to open a graphite mine in the area. Graphite is a mineral used in many things, like pencils and batteries. This project was first suggested in 2015.
How Campoona is Governed
Campoona is part of different government areas. For national elections, it is in the federal Division of Grey. For state elections in South Australia, it is in the Electoral district of Flinders. Locally, it is managed by the District Council of Cleve.
