Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association facts for kids
The Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association (CCTGA) is a special group for people who grow Christmas trees in Canada. It started in 1972. Think of it as a main group that helps connect and support smaller groups of tree growers across different parts of Canada.
How the CCTGA Started and Grew
The CCTGA began in 1972. Richard Lord was its very first president. A big moment for the CCTGA happened in 1986. This was during a disagreement with the United States about forest products. This event helped the CCTGA become a stronger and more important group.
The CCTGA has also done some very kind things. In both 2007 and 2008, they ran a special program. They donated thousands of Christmas trees to families of Canadian soldiers. These soldiers were serving far away in Afghanistan during the holidays. This program was called "Trees for Troops" in 2008. The Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, even talked about it in a speech. He mentioned it on December 5 in Petawawa, Ontario.
What the CCTGA Does
The CCTGA calls itself an "umbrella organization." This means it's like a main group that covers and helps many smaller groups. These smaller groups are the provincial Christmas Tree Growers Associations across Canada.
These smaller groups are found in several Canadian provinces:
There is also a prairie association. This group includes members from both Saskatchewan and Alberta.
