Canjilón Mountain is a tall mountain in New Mexico, United States. It stands about 10,922 feet (3,329 meters) high. You can find it about six miles northeast of a small village called Canjilón. This mountain is part of the beautiful Carson National Forest.

What's in a Name?

The name Canjilón comes from a special kind of Spanish spoken in Northern New Mexico. In this language, "canjilón" means "deer antler." People named the mountain this because it looks a bit like a deer's antler. The mountain is so important that it gave its name to other nearby places. These include Canjilon Creek, the Canjilon lakes, and the village of Canjilon.

Interesting Facts

Canjilón Mountain has experienced some natural events. On June 4, 2008, a small earthquake happened near the mountain. It had a strength of 3.7 on the magnitude scale. This shows that even mountains can be active!
