Changes to the Map
Sometimes, smaller towns or communes decide to join together to form a larger one. This happened in the Canton of Remich.
On January 1, 2012, two former communes, Burmerange and Wellenstein, became part of the commune of Schengen. This change was made official by a law passed in May 2011.
How Many People Live Here?
The number of people living in the Canton of Remich has changed a lot over the years. This chart shows how the population has grown or shrunk at different times.
As you can see, the population was around 11,000 people in 1821. It went up and down for many years. However, since the 1960s, the number of people living in the Canton of Remich has generally been growing steadily. By 2021, the population was over 23,500 people.
