Caracena is a small village located in the province of Soria, in the region of Castile and León, Spain. It is known for its history and its beautiful old churches.
Even though it has a small population, Caracena is home to two amazing Romanesque churches. These are St Mary's Church and St Peter's Church. Romanesque is a style of architecture from a long time ago.
Where is Caracena?
Caracena is found next to the Caracena river. It is surrounded by several other small towns. These include Tarancueña and Valderromán to the south. To the west are Hoz de Arriba and Hoz de Abajo. Carrascosa de Abajo is to the north. Finally, La Perera, Madrúedano, and the old town of Pozuelo are to the east.
The Wool Route
Caracena is located on an old path called the Ruta de la Lana. This means "Wool Route" in Spanish. It was once used by people transporting wool. This route is also a part of the Camino de Santiago. The Camino de Santiago is a famous network of pilgrim trails. This specific part of the route goes between Alicante and Burgos.
Getting to Caracena
You can reach Caracena by road. The local road SO-V-1601 connects it to La Rasa and Valderromán. This road also links the provinces of Soria and Segovia. It connects to the SO-135 road, which starts in Ayllón.
