Caren Metschuck (born on September 27, 1963) is a famous German former swimmer. She is known for winning many gold medals at the Olympic Games. Later in her life, her name became Caren Mahn.

Caren was a very successful swimmer. She competed in different swimming styles, including butterfly and freestyle. Her amazing talent helped her win many top awards.

Olympic Glory

Caren Metschuck had a fantastic time at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She won three gold medals, which is a huge achievement!

  • She earned a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly race.
  • She also won gold as part of the 4×100-meter freestyle relay team.
  • Her third gold came with the 4×100-meter medley relay team.

These wins made her the most successful female athlete at those Olympic Games. She also won a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle race.

World and European Success

Caren's success continued after the Olympics. In 1981, she competed in the European Championships held in Split.

  • She won a gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle event.
  • She also helped her teams win gold in both the 4×100-meter freestyle relay and the 4×100-meter medley relay.

The next year, in 1982, Caren won another big title. She became a world champion in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay at the World Championships. She had also won a silver medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the 1978 World Championships.

After Swimming

After her incredible swimming career, Caren Metschuck decided to become a school teacher. She set three world records during her time as a swimmer, all in relay events.

In 1990, Caren was honored for her achievements. She was added to the International Swimming Hall of Fame. This is a special place for the greatest swimmers in history. After Germany became one country again, she worked as a swimming coach at her old club, SC Empor Rostock.
