Carex cusickii is a type of plant known as a sedge. Its common name is Cusick's sedge. This plant grows naturally in the western parts of North America. You can find it from British Columbia in Canada, down through the Cascade Range in the United States, to California, and also in Utah.

Carex cusickii likes wet places. It often grows in marshes, damp mountain meadows, and even along ditches. It is most common in the Cascade Mountains and areas west of them.

About Cusick's Sedge

This sedge plant grows in clumps, meaning many stems grow close together from the same base. These stems can reach up to 1.3 meters (about 4 feet) tall.

Sometimes, a Carex cusickii plant will have only male flowers, and another plant will have only female flowers. This is a special way some plants reproduce.

The plant has long leaves. The lower part of the leaves, called sheaths, often have small red dots. The very tips of the leaves can have a coppery color. The flowers of the sedge grow in groups called spikelets. These spikelets are often separated into different bunches along the stem.
