A Look at Carhuaz's Past
Carhuaz became an official town on December 14, 1934. Its history is similar to other towns in the Callejón de Huaylas valley.
The name "Carhuaz" comes from the word qarwash. This word means "yellow." It refers to the bright yellow flowers of the retama plant (broom flowers). These flowers cover the hills around the town.
