Carla was famous for her fun cooking videos on their YouTube channel. Her most popular show was Back-to-Back Chef. She left the magazine in 2020 because of problems with fair treatment at the company.

About Carla Lalli Music
Carla Lalli Music grew up in an Italian-American family. Her mother was a food critic and also edited cookbooks. Carla went to Brown University and earned a degree in 1994. Later, she studied cooking at the French Culinary Institute.
Carla worked in restaurants for over ten years. She was a chef and kitchen manager for famous chefs. She also helped open the first Shake Shack restaurant. She even taught cooking classes at the Institute for Culinary Education. In 2009, she started writing about food. She became an editor for Everyday Food magazine.
Carla's Journey at Bon Appétit
In 2011, Carla joined Bon Appétit magazine as an editor. She later became the magazine's food director. In early 2020, she changed her role to focus on writing her second cookbook.
Carla first appeared in Bon Appétit's YouTube videos in 2015. She quickly became a regular in their cooking videos. In 2018, she started hosting Back-to-Back Chef. In this web series, Carla teaches a celebrity how to cook a dish. The funny part is, they face away from each other! She gives only verbal instructions. Famous guests on her show included Natalie Portman and Elizabeth Olsen. People loved the show for its humor and Carla's hosting style. Vulture magazine called Back-to-Back Chef "simple, elegant, and absolutely genius." Carla also appeared in other Bon Appétit series like Test Kitchen Talks and Making Perfect.
In August 2020, Carla and other chefs stopped filming videos for Bon Appétit's YouTube channel. This happened because of ongoing issues at the company. They wanted to see more progress in making sure everyone was treated fairly.
Cookbooks and New Shows
Carla's first cookbook, Where Cooking Begins: Uncomplicated Recipes to Make You a Great Cook, came out on March 19, 2019. In May 2020, this book won a special award. It received the 2020 James Beard Foundation Book Award for "General" cooking. Carla announced she was working on her second cookbook in October 2019.
In November 2020, Carla started her own video series. It's called Carla’s Cooking Show. This show is available to her fans who support her on Patreon. In December 2020, she launched another show. It's an Instagram Live series called You Got Snack'd, which she hosts with Molly Baz.
Carla's second cookbook, That Sounds So Good: 100 Real-Life Recipes for Every Day of the Week, was released in October 2021. Along with the book, she started a new weekly YouTube series. Each episode shows Carla cooking a recipe from her new book.
Carla's Family Life
Carla Lalli Music lives in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. She has two children. She is divorced. Her former father-in-law was the actor Lorenzo Music. He was famous for being the original voice of the cartoon cat Garfield.
