Carlisle is a small city in Nicholas County, Kentucky, United States. It is known as a home rule-class city, which means it has the power to govern itself on local matters. Carlisle is the main town and county seat of Nicholas County.
In 2010, about 2,010 people lived here. The city is located where two main roads, Kentucky Route 32 and Kentucky Route 36, meet. It's about halfway between the cities of Lexington and Maysville.

History of Carlisle
Carlisle was started in 1816. A man named John Kincart gave land for the city to be built. This was done so that the county seat, which is the main town for government, could move here. Before Carlisle, the county seat was in a place called Ellisville, which was about 5 miles north.
