Carlos Bernardo Fitz-James Stuart y Silva (born March 25, 1752 – died September 7, 1787) was an important Spanish nobleman. He held the titles of 4th Duke of Liria and Jérica, and 4th Duke of Berwick.
He was born in Liria, Spain. His father was James Fitz-James Stuart, the 3rd Duke of Berwick. His mother was María Teresa de Silva y Álvarez de Toledo. She was also the sister of Fernando, the 12th Duke of Alba.
In 1771, Carlos married Princess Caroline of Stolberg-Gedern. Her sister, Louise, was married to Charles Edward Stuart. Charles Edward Stuart was also known as "King Charles III" by a group called the Jacobites.
Carlos Fitz-James Stuart became a Duke in 1785. He inherited these important titles from his father.
In 1787, a court decided that Carlos would lose some of his titles. These titles were originally from the family of Christopher Columbus. They included the Dukedom of la Vega and the Dukedom of Veragua. These titles then went to Mariano Colón de Larreátegui.
Carlos also served King Charles III of Spain. He was a "Gentleman of the Bedchamber." This was an important role, meaning he was a close attendant to the King.
The Duke of Liria and Jérica passed away in 1787 in Madrid. His son, Jacobo, then became the 5th Duke of Liria and Jérica and the 5th Duke of Berwick.
