Carlos Daniel Franco (born on May 24, 1965) is a professional golfer from Paraguay. He currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions, which is a golf tour for players aged 50 and older. Carlos is also the brother of another golfer, Ángel Franco.
Carlos grew up in Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay. His family was not wealthy, and he lived in a small home with a dirt floor. His father worked as a greenkeeper (someone who takes care of golf courses) and a caddie (someone who carries golf clubs for players). Carlos has five brothers, and all of them became professional golfers, just like him!
Carlos became a professional golfer in 1986. He has played in many different countries around the world. He has won more than 20 tournaments in Latin America. From 1994 to 1999, he won five times on the Japan Golf Tour. He also won the Philippine Open in 1994 and was named the best player on the Asia Golf Circuit that year.
In 1999, Carlos started playing on the PGA Tour in the United States. He was the first new player (rookie) to earn over $1 million in prize money in one season! Because of this, he won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award. He won four tournaments on the PGA Tour. At one point in 2000, he was ranked 16th in the world among all golfers. Carlos is also one of the few non-American players to be part of a winning Presidents Cup team, which happened in 1998.
After playing on the PGA Tour for many years, Carlos also competed on the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamérica. When he turned 50, he joined the Champions Tour, where he continues to play today.
In 2019, Carlos Franco represented Paraguay at the Pan American Games. He teamed up with Fabrizio Zanotti, Julieta Granada, and Sofia García. Together, they won a silver medal in the mixed team golf event. He also won a silver medal in the mixed team event at the 2022 South American Games.
