Carlota de Godoy y Borbón, 2nd Duchess of Sueca, was an important Spanish noblewoman. She was born on October 7, 1800, in Madrid, Spain. Carlota was the daughter of Manuel de Godoy, a powerful figure in Spain, and María Teresa de Borbón, 15th Countess of Chinchón.
Carlota inherited many important titles from her parents. She became the 2nd Duchess of Sueca and the 16th Countess of Chinchón. She was also known as a Grandee of Spain. This was a very high rank for a noble, giving special privileges and status. Carlota was also a member of important royal orders, like the Royal Order of Queen María Luisa. She passed away in Paris, France, on May 13, 1886.
Carlota's Family Life
Carlota de Godoy y Borbón married Don Camillo Ruspoli y Khevenhüller-Metsch in Madrid on November 18, 1821. Camillo was a prince from an important Italian family. He held various positions, including a military role for Pope Leo XII. He was also recognized by the Kings of Spain to use his wife's noble titles.
Together, Carlota and Camillo had two sons:
- Adolfo Ruspoli, 2nd Duke of Alcudia
- Luigi Ruspoli, 3rd Marquis of Boadilla del Monte
Their sons continued the family lines, connecting the Spanish Godoy and Borbón families with the Italian Ruspoli family.
