Carlyne remembers her childhood fondly, thanks to her mother, Anne-Marie Errembault de Dudzeele. Her mother was a member of the Belgian nobility. She married Philippe Jean Louis Cerf in 1946. Carlyne has a sister, Géraldine, and a half-sister, Marie-Pierre.

Her mother, Anne-Marie, was the daughter of Count Gaston Hugues Errembault de Dudzeele. Her grandmother was Princess Natalija Petrovic-Njegosh.

Fashion Career

Carlyne moved to Paris in the 1960s. She began her fashion career by working at magazines like Depeche Mode and Marie Claire.

In 1977, she joined French Elle magazine. She worked there for ten years. In 1985, she moved to New York. There, she became the fashion director for Vogue US.

One of her most famous achievements was styling Anna Wintour's very first Vogue cover in 1988. On this cover, Israeli model Michaela Bercu wore a fancy Christian Lacroix top with jeans. This mix of high fashion and everyday items was very new at the time.

Carlyne worked closely with many famous fashion photographers. These included Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Paolo Roversi, Patrick Demarchelier, and Steven Meisel.

Beyond magazines, Carlyne helped define the look of Versace in the 1990s. She worked closely with top designers like Gianni Versace, Azzedine Alaïa, and Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel.

Carlyne says she does not follow fashion trends. Instead, she always creates her own style. She believes that simplicity is the key to being chic.

In October 2013, Carlyne became an editor at large for Lucky Magazine.

She also had a video series called J'Adore. In this series, she talked about her love for leopard print. She also shared her preference for fake fur. The series ended in 2014 because she became too busy.

In February 2024, Carlyne was the main stylist for Japanese musician Yoshiki's new fashion line. This line, called Maison Yoshiki Paris, debuted at Milan Fashion Week.
