Carmine Appice's Music Journey
Carmine Appice started his music career with classical training. He was inspired by jazz drummers like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.
Early Bands and Success
Appice first became famous as the drummer for Vanilla Fudge in the late 1960s. He also sang background harmonies with the band's bassist, Tim Bogert. After making five albums, Carmine and Tim left Vanilla Fudge. They then formed a blues rock band called Cactus. This band included singer Rusty Day and guitarist Jim McCarty.
Later, Appice and Bogert teamed up with guitarist Jeff Beck. They formed a powerful rock trio called Beck, Bogert & Appice.
Playing with Rock Stars
In 1976, Carmine Appice joined Rod Stewart's band. He helped write some of Rod Stewart's songs, including "Young Turks". He also played drums on a song for Paul Stanley's solo album in 1978.
Appice was part of a band called KGB. He also recorded music with famous artists like Stanley Clarke and Ted Nugent. He even played on a song for the legendary band Pink Floyd. Later, he played with the bands King Kobra and Blue Murder.
Honors and Helping Others
On May 23, 1981, the Mayor of Los Angeles, Tom Bradley, declared it "Carmine Appice Day." This was to recognize his charity work and efforts to help educate people.
In 2005, Carmine Appice became a supporter of Little Kids Rock. This group gives free musical instruments and lessons to children in schools. He has given instruments to kids and performed at benefit concerts for the organization. He is also on their honorary board.
New Projects and Collaborations
In 2006, Carmine Appice created a drum group called SLAMM. In this show, he played drums with four young drummers. It was described as a very energetic performance. SLAMM was even recognized by Drum magazine as a top percussion ensemble.
He also released albums in his Guitar Zeus series, like Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus: Conquering Heroes (2009). These albums featured many famous guitarists.
Carmine Appice continues to make music. In 2011, he played drums on a song for Sly Stone's album. From 2011 to 2012, he performed "Drum Wars" shows with his brother Vinny Appice.
