Carolina Gynning Nilsson (born on October 6, 1978) is a Swedish model, author, podcaster, actress, jewelry designer, and television presenter. She began her career as a model when she was sixteen years old. In 2004, she was a participant in the Swedish version of the TV show Big Brother and won that season. Since then, Gynning has become a successful television presenter for channels like TV4 and Kanal5. She is also known as an artist and has written several books. Carolina has appeared in other TV shows, including I huvudet på Gynning ("Inside Gynning's head") and Let's Dance.

Carolina Gynning's Early Life and School Years

Carolina Gynning was born in Helsingborg, Sweden. She lived in Höganäs for a short time before spending most of her childhood in Falsterbo. Carolina has shared that she was a shy girl when she was younger. However, she became more outgoing during her teenage years. She attended high school in Lund.

How Carolina Started Modelling

When she was sixteen, a fashion photographer discovered her at a bus stop in Falsterbo. While still in high school, she took on some modeling jobs. Later, she got modeling work in international fashion shows. She traveled to cities like Athens, Milan, and Paris for her work. Carolina lived and worked abroad for ten years, mostly as a model.

Carolina Gynning's Career in Television

After working as a model for several years, Carolina Gynning was asked to join the Swedish version of the reality TV show Big Brother. She entered the house in January 2004 and ended up winning the entire season.

Becoming a TV Host and Dancer

In 2006, Carolina joined Let's Dance as a celebrity dancer. This was the first season of the show, broadcast on TV4. Her dance partner was Daniel da Silva. They were eliminated in the second round of the competition.

Later in 2006, she worked for Viasat's Formula 1 show Studio F1. At the same time, she was one of five hosts for the TV4 show Förkväll ("Tonight"). In 2007, Gynning co-hosted the audition part of Idol 2007 with Carina Berg.

Hosting Her Own Shows

In 2008, Carolina Gynning hosted her own show called I huvudet på Gynning ("Inside Gynning's Head") on Kanal5. That same year, she also hosted the talent show Hitmakers on the same channel. Towards the end of 2008, she and Carina Berg hosted the TV4 show Stjärnor på is, which is the Swedish version of Stars on Ice.

In 2009, Gynning hosted Hjälp! Jag är med i en japansk TV-show ("Help! I am in a Japanese TV Show!") on TV4. In the summer of that year, she hosted Sommarkrysset ("The summer cruise") with Carina Berg. In 2013, she was one of the celebrity hosts for the radio show Sommar i P1. In 2014, Gynning was a judge on the new season of Talang Sverige 2014 ("Talent Sweden") on TV3.

Carolina Gynning as an Actress

Before she joined Big Brother, Carolina Gynning appeared in the French film Happily Ever After in 2004. She played a character named Zoe in the movie, which starred Johnny Depp. In the 2012 film Blondie, produced by Jesper Ganslandt, Gynning played a main role. She acted alongside Marie Göranzon, Helena af Sandeberg, and Alexandra Dahlström. In 2022, she also appeared in the film Triangle of Sadness.

Carolina Gynning as a Writer

In 2005, Carolina Gynning released her first book, an autobiography called Ego Girl. In this book, she shared her journey of being discovered as a model at sixteen. She wrote about how she found herself again after difficult experiences. In 2007, a book was released that contained mail messages between Gynning and Alex Schulman.

At the end of 2008, Gynning worked with writer Ingrid Carlqvist to write Ego Woman. This book was a follow-up to Ego Girl and was released in 2009.

In 2011, she published her first novel, Laura – flickan från havet ("Laura - girl from the sea"). She got the idea for the book after meeting author Jens Lapidus. Gynning said she wanted to write about women living in a certain area of Stockholm. She described the book as a "dirty crime" story. In 2012, the next book in the series, Vanessa – flickan i glaskupan ("Vanessa - the girl in the glass dome"), was released.

Carolina Gynning as an Artist

Carolina Gynning has held several exhibitions to show her artwork. In April 2009, she had an art show at Ystad Saltsjöbad. The exhibition was very popular. She sold many pieces, including two famous ones called Bleeding Barbie and Cat Power.

She has also worked with glass and designed a glass collection. This collection was for the Cervera chain of Swedish homeware stores. On November 21, 2013, she had an art exhibition at Gothia Towers with her mother, Agneta Gynning.

Studio Gynning and Jewelry Design

Recently, Carolina opened an art studio with her mother called Studio Gynning. She has also been planning a celebration to mark ten years as a professional artist. Besides painting, she is also a jewelry designer.

Carolina has shared in interviews that becoming a mother has changed her art. She says her paintings are not as dark as they used to be. In the past, she mainly drew portraits, but now she paints the whole body. She believes this change comes from being a mother and feeling more complete as a person.

Awards and Recognition

In 2007, Carolina Gynning won the TV-award from the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. She was named the Best Female Television Personality of the Year.

In 2008, Aftonbladet listed Gynning among the most powerful people in Sweden. She was placed at number 37 on their list.

Personal Life

Carolina Gynning comes from a family of artists. Her mother, Agneta Gynning, is also an artist. Her grandfather's brother, Lars Gynning, was an artist and textile artist who studied under Isaac Grünewald.

In 2013, Carolina and her mother opened an art gallery together in Malmö.

Carolina lived with Alexander Lydecker, who is a sales manager. They have two daughters together. They lived in a suburb of Stockholm near the coast. In June 2021, Carolina Gynning had her third daughter with her boyfriend, Viktor Philipson.
