Carolyn W. Colvin, born on May 27, 1942, in Arnold, Maryland, is an American public administrator. She has held important roles in the United States government. She is best known for her work at the Social Security Administration. This is a government agency that helps people with retirement, disability, and other benefits.

Ms. Colvin served as the Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration twice. Her first time was from 2013 to 2017. She also served in this role from late 2024 to early 2025. In 2014, President Barack Obama suggested she become the permanent commissioner. The Senate Committee on Finance approved her, but the full Senate never voted on it.
