The Story of Carpigiani
How It All Started
The Carpigiani company was created in 1944 by two brothers, Bruto and Poerio Carlo Carpigiani. They named their first company "Gastecnica S.a.s dei fratelli Carpigiani". The brothers invented and got a special patent for a new gelato machine called "Autogelatiera".
Making Ice Cream Fluffy
Carpigiani's soft serve ice cream machines are very clever! They mix air with the ice cream ingredients while making it. This special process makes the ice cream super fluffy and whippy. It's why soft serve ice cream has such a light and smooth texture.
Growing Bigger and Better
In the 1960s, Carpigiani became a world leader in ice cream machine technology. This was thanks to their invention of a new machine called the "hard-o-matic". This invention helped them grow even more.
In 1964, they started a company in America called Coldelite U.S.A. Later, in 1971, Carpigiani bought another company that made similar machines, called Cattabriga. In 1989, a large group called Comenda Ali S.p.A. bought Carpigiani.
A Mark of Quality
In 1993, Carpigiani received a special quality award called UNI EN ISO 9001:1987 certification. They were the very first company in their business to get this important award, showing how much they cared about making top-quality machines.
Around the World
Carpigiani has offices in many countries, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, China, Singapore, Russia, and two in South America. Their main factories are in Bologna (where their headquarters are), Forlì, Gandia in Spain, and Zhongshan in China. During the 1990s, Carpigiani also bought other companies that made similar machines, like Ott-Freezer from Switzerland and Promag from Italy.
Learning About Gelato
Carpigiani Gelato University
In 2003, Carpigiani started the Carpigiani Gelato University. This is a special school where people can learn how to make amazing artisan gelato. By 2021, this school had become the biggest and most famous gelato school in the world! It has 20 campuses all over the globe, plus its main school in Anzola, Italy. At the main school, you can learn in Italian, English, or French.
The Gelato Museum
On September 27, 2012, Carpigiani opened the Carpigiani Gelato Museum. This is the first and only museum in the world that is completely dedicated to the history and making of gelato! It's a cool place to learn all about this delicious frozen treat.
