Carrick Mountain is a mountain found in the eastern part of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. Long ago, it was known by different names. In 1756, people called it Carrigmurrely. Later, in 1795, it was known as Carrickmacreily.
About Carrick Mountain
Carrick Mountain stands right above the village of Glenealy. You can find Glenealy on the R752 road. It is located between the towns of Rathnew and Rathdrum. The mountain is mostly covered in thick forest. There are only a few large, rocky areas that are not covered by trees.
Exploring the Mountain
There are many forest roads on Carrick Mountain. These roads have long, straight parts and steep slopes. They also have sharp turns called hair-pin bends. The roads are made of sand and gravel. They go almost all the way to the top of the mountain.
These forest roads are a popular spot for car rallying. Car rallying is a type of motor sport. Drivers race special cars on these challenging roads. Both official races and unofficial events happen here.
Rock Climbing Adventures
Near the top of Carrick Mountain, there are some large granite rocks. These rocks are used for rock climbing. It is a smaller climbing spot, but it is still fun.
About 15 different climbing paths have been found here. These paths are called "routes." Most of them are "single-pitch" climbs. This means they are not very long. The routes have different difficulty levels, or "grades." These grades go up to E2, which is quite challenging.
