Communities in Casco Township
Casco Township does not have any big towns or cities. Instead, it has several smaller areas called unincorporated communities. These are places where people live, but they don't have their own separate local government.
Here are some of the communities you can find in Casco Township:
- Cedar Bluff is right by Lake Michigan. It's located off Blue Star Highway.
- Glenn Haven Shores, also known as Hollywood, is also near Lake Michigan. It's north of Cedar Bluff.
- Glenn Shores, sometimes called Glenn Stores, is north of Glenn Haven Shores. It's between Lake Michigan and Blue Star Memorial Highway.
- Hawkhead is at the corner of 107th Avenue and 68th Street. This community used to have its own post office a long time ago, from 1882 to 1902.
- Kibbie is on the border with Geneva Township in Van Buren County.
- Lacota is a community shared with Geneva Township and Lee Township.
- Leisure, also known as East Casco, is at the junction of 107th Avenue and 64th Street. It also had a post office from 1892 to 1903.
- Miami Park, or Miami Park Beach, is along the Lake Michigan shore. It's north of Mount Pleasant.
- Mount Pleasant is located between the Lake Michigan shore and Blue Star Highway.
- South Haven Highlands is another community by Lake Michigan. It's between the shore and Blue Star Highway.
- Spring Grove is north of Leisure on 64th Street, near the Ganges Township line.
History of Casco Township
Casco Township was created in 1854. It was formed when the larger Ganges Township was divided into smaller parts.
A post office named New Casco opened here in 1856. This post office was later renamed Glenn in 1876. Another post office operated in Hawkhead from 1882 to 1902.
Geography of Casco Township
Casco Township covers a total area of about 100.9 square kilometers (about 39 square miles). Most of this area is land, measuring about 100.7 square kilometers (38.9 square miles). A small part, about 0.2 square kilometers (0.08 square miles), is water. This means the township is mostly land.
