Case's Music Journey
Starting Out and First Big Hits
Case began his music career by working with other R&B groups. He also helped write songs and sang background vocals for famous artists like Usher. A talented songwriter named Faith Evans wrote a song for him. This song helped him get noticed by Russell Simmons, who signed him to Def Jam Records.
Case's solo career really took off in 1996. He released the song "Touch Me, Tease Me" which featured rapper Foxy Brown and singer Mary J. Blige. This song was part of The Nutty Professor movie soundtrack. It became a huge success, selling over 500,000 copies and reaching high spots on the music charts in the U.S. and the UK.
Later in 1996, Case released his first album, also called Case. Even though "Touch Me, Tease Me" was a hit, the album did okay on the charts. Case later shared that he didn't have much say in how the album was made. This made him not like it as much. It took him almost three years to release his next album.
More Success with "Personal Conversation"
In 1999, Case released his second album, Personal Conversation. This album had two more big hits. "Happily Ever After" was one of them. The music video for this song even featured a young Beyoncé! The other hit was "Faded Pictures," which featured R&B singer Joe. Both songs did very well on the R&B and pop charts. Personal Conversation also sold well, earning a "gold" certification for selling over 500,000 copies.
"Missing You" and Grammy Nominations
Case released his third album, Open Letter, in 2001. This album was a huge success and is his most famous one. It included the hit song "Missing You," which became Case's only number one single on the R&B charts. It also reached number four on the main U.S. pop chart.
Later that year, Case also sang on rapper Ja Rule's popular song "Livin' It Up." After the success of Open Letter, Case moved to Atlanta to be closer to his children. His hard work paid off when he received two Grammy Award nominations in 2002. He was nominated for "Best Male R&B Vocal Performance" for "Missing You" and "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration" for "Livin' It Up."
Movie Soundtracks and Later Albums
Many of Case's popular songs have been featured in movies. His songs appeared on the soundtracks for films like Nutty Professor, Rush Hour, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and The Best Man.
After taking some time away from music, Case returned in 2008. He released his fourth album, The Rose Experience, in 2009. His fifth album, Here, My Love, came out in 2010. In 2015, he released his sixth studio album, Heaven's Door.
In 2017, a TV show called Unsung featured Case's career story. This helped create new excitement around his music. He then released a special collection of songs called Love Jones Vol. 1. In 2018, he released his album Therapy. Case continues to tour and share his music with fans.
