Robert Lavelle Huggar, known as RL, is an American singer and songwriter. He became famous as the main singer of the R&B group Next.

Early Life and Beginnings
Robert Lavelle Huggar was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A. He later became a well-known artist in the music world.
How Next Got Started
RL was the lead singer of the group Next. The other members were brothers Terry Brown and Raphael Brown. They met a music producer and DJ named KayGee. KayGee was part of the famous group Naughty by Nature.
KayGee liked their music and signed them to his new record label, Divine Mill. This label worked with Arista Records to release their music.
RL's Solo Music Journey
RL started to make music on his own, separate from Next. He sang a duet with Deborah Cox called "We Can't Be Friends." This song helped him become known as a solo artist.
He also sang on a special song for The Best Man movie soundtrack. This song was called "The Best Man I Can Be." He sang it with other popular artists like Ginuwine, Tyrese, and Case.
RL continued to release his own songs. "Good Love" was featured in The Brothers movie soundtrack. He also sang the hook for 2Pac's song "Until the End of Time." These songs helped him create his own unique style.
His First Solo Album
RL released his first solo album called RL: Ements. It came out in 2002 with J Records. Two songs from this album became popular: "Got Me a Model" (which featured Erick Sermon) and "Good Man."
RL's Family Life
RL has a son named Charles from his first marriage.
In October 2017, RL married Lena Danielle. They welcomed their daughter in January 2018.
