Robert Lavelle Huggar, known as RL, is an American singer and songwriter. He became famous as the main singer for the R&B group Next.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Robert Lavelle Huggar was born in 1977 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His parents are Robert and Toni Huggar. As he grew up, he heard many different kinds of music. This helped shape his own musical style. He looked up to artists like Prince and Michael Jackson. Music producers like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis also inspired him. These influences encouraged him to start a career in music.
Joining the Group Next
RL became the lead singer of the R&B group Next. The group also included brothers Terry Brown and Raphael Brown. They met a producer and DJ named KayGee. KayGee was part of the famous group Naughty by Nature. He liked Next and signed them to his new record label, Divine Mill. This label worked with Arista Records to release their music.
RL's Solo Music Career
RL started to make music outside of Next. He sang a duet with Deborah Cox called "We Can't Be Friends." He also worked on other projects. He sang on "The Best Man I Can Be" for The Best Man movie soundtrack. Other singers like Ginuwine, Tyrese, and Case were also on this song.
Later, RL released "Good Love" for The Brothers movie soundtrack. He also sang the hook for 2Pac's song "Until the End of Time." These songs helped him become known as a solo artist. His first solo album was called RL: Ements. It was released by J Records. This album featured songs like "Got Me a Model" and "Good Man."
RL's Family Life
RL has a son named Charles from his first marriage. In October 2017, he married Lena Danielle. Their daughter was born in January 2018.
