The Casque du Marboré is a tall mountain peak in the Pyrenees mountains. People also call it the Casque de Gavarnie or just le Casque. It stands at 3,006 meters (about 9,862 feet) high. This peak is part of the Monte Perdido Range and sits right on the border between France and Spain. It looks over the amazing Cirque de Gavarnie.

What's in a Name?
The word casque means "helmet" in French. This mountain got its name because its top looks a bit like a helmet. The word marboré comes from "marble." Marble is a type of rock found in this area.
Where is the Casque du Marboré?
The Casque du Marboré is part of a group of peaks. These include the Tour du Marboré, the Cascade Peaks, and the Pic de Marboré. They all rise above the Cirque de Gavarnie. This cirque is a huge natural amphitheater. It's about 1,500 meters (almost a mile) deep.
The Cirque de Gavarnie marks the border between two national parks. On the French side, it's the Pyrenees National Park. On the Spanish side, it's the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. The famous Gavarnie Falls are also here. These falls are 422 meters (1,385 feet) high. They are the biggest waterfall in Europe and flow down from the Casque du Marboré.
- On the French side: The mountain is in the town of Gavarnie. This is in the Hautes-Pyrénées department, which is part of the Midi-Pyrénées region.
- On the Spanish side: It is in the Sobrarbe area. This is in the Huesca province, which is part of the Aragon region.
How to Reach the Peak
There are different ways to get close to the Casque du Marboré. From Spain, you can go to the beautiful prairies of Ordesa Valley. You can also go to the Bujaruelo valley. From France, you need to travel to the Gavarnie-Gèdre skiing resort. This is the closest place to the mountain's summit.
If you start from Ordesa, it's a four-hour hike uphill. This takes you to the Goriz refuge. A refuge is like a mountain hut where climbers can rest. From Goriz, you follow a path towards la Brèche de Roland. This is a famous gap in the mountain range. You then reach a pass between the Tour du Marboré and the Casque. From there, you start the final climb to the top.
You can also reach this pass from Ordesa by going through the cirque de Cotatuero or the Carriata.
If you start from Gavarnie-Gèdre or Bujaruelo, you first go up to the refuge des Sarradets. Then you reach la Brèche de Roland. After that, you head east along the southern slope until you reach the pass. This is where the final climb begins.
