Regions of France facts for kids
France is divided into 18 special areas called regions (régions in French). These regions are a type of local government, which means they help manage different parts of the country.
Most of these regions, 13 of them, are in Metropolitan France. This is the main part of the country located in Europe. One of these, Corsica, has a slightly different setup from the others.
The other five regions are located overseas, far from mainland France. Before 2016, France had 27 regions. Some of these were combined to make the 18 regions we have today.
Exploring France's Regions and Their Capitals
