Caterina Scorsone is a Canadian-American actress. She is famous for her role as Dr. Amelia Shepherd, a brain surgeon, in the TV show Grey's Anatomy. She also played this character in its spin-off shows, Private Practice and Station 19.
Caterina started acting when she was a child. She appeared on the Canadian children's show Mr. Dressup. She has also been in movies like Edge of Darkness and The November Man.

About Caterina's Early Life
Caterina Scorsone was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is the middle child in a family of five children. Her father, Antonio Bruno Scorsone, is a social worker. Her mother, Suzanne Rozell Scorsone, studies how people live in groups.
Caterina has Italian family roots. She went to the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts in Toronto. She also studied at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. There, she focused on literature and philosophy. She finished her studies in 2006.
Caterina's Acting Career
Caterina's first TV appearances were in a Goosebumps episode. She then became a regular guest on the children's TV show Mr. Dressup. In 1998, she acted in a radio show called Peggy Delaney.
Becoming a Star in TV Shows
Caterina became well-known after getting the main role in the TV show Missing. This crime drama aired from 2003 to 2006. She played Jess Mastriani, a young woman who could see missing people in her visions. Jess later joined the FBI to help find these people.
In 2009, Caterina starred as Alice Hamilton in the TV miniseries Alice. This show was based on the famous story Alice in Wonderland.
Joining Grey's Anatomy Family
In 2010, Caterina joined the cast of Private Practice. She played Dr. Amelia Shepherd, who is the sister of a character from Grey's Anatomy. An actor named Eric Stoltz, who was directing an episode, suggested Caterina for the role. He thought she looked like Patrick Dempsey, who plays Amelia's brother in Grey's Anatomy.
Caterina became a regular cast member on Private Practice in July 2010. She also appeared on Grey's Anatomy to show how Amelia and her brother worked through their differences. In 2014, Caterina became a main cast member on Grey's Anatomy. She has been on the show ever since.
Caterina's Personal Life
Caterina Scorsone married Rob Giles in June 2009. They are no longer married, having divorced in 2020. They have three daughters together: Eliza, Paloma Michaela (who they call "Pippa"), and Arwen Lucinda (who they call "Lucky").
Caterina's first and third pregnancies were included in her character's story on Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy. Her second pregnancy was not part of the show's story.
Advocacy for Children
Caterina is a strong supporter for children with Down syndrome and other learning differences. She became an advocate after her second daughter, Pippa, was born with Down syndrome. On November 14, 2020, she received an award for her amazing work helping these children. It was called the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award.
