School History and Buildings
Cathkin High School first opened its doors in November 1970. It cost about £1.25 million to build. A politician named Peggy Herbison officially opened the school. Around the same time, new homes were built nearby in an area called Whitlawburn.
Moving to a New Campus
The original school building was replaced in 2008. A brand new campus was built right next to the old one. This new campus also has a nursery for younger children and a special school called Rutherglen High School.
After the new school opened, the old buildings were taken down. New houses were then built on that land. These new homes are part of the Cathkin Rise estate.
Student and Staff Numbers
In 2018, Cathkin High School had 1081 students. The school also had 81.4 full-time equivalent staff members. This means there were enough teachers and staff to support all the students.
Sports Achievements
In May 2018, the school's senior boys' football team won a big award. They won the Scottish Senior Boys Shield for the very first time. They played against St Ninian's High School, Giffnock in the final game and won after a penalty shootout.
