School History: From Old to New
Cathkin High School first opened its doors in November 1970. The original building cost about £1.25 million to build. A famous politician named Peggy Herbison officially opened the school. It took the place of Gateside School, which was in central Cambuslang.
In 2008, Cathkin High School moved to a brand new campus. This new building is very modern and is located just north of the old school site. The new campus is special because it also includes a nursery for younger children and Rutherglen High School, which is a school for students with special educational needs. The old school buildings were later taken down to make way for new houses.
As of September 2015, the school had over 1000 students. There were also about 88 full-time teachers working there. The school continues to be a big part of the local community.
Football Success: Winning the Shield
In May 2018, the school's senior boys' football team achieved something amazing! They won the Scottish Senior Boys Shield for the very first time. They played against St Ninian's High School, Giffnock in the final game. Cathkin High School won the match after a thrilling penalty shootout. This was a huge moment of pride for the school.
School Houses: A Team Spirit
Cathkin High School uses a house system to help students feel part of a smaller team within the school. This system encourages friendly competition and teamwork. The school is divided into five different houses, and each student belongs to one of them.
The five houses are:
- Arran
- Barra
- Jura
- Skye
- Tiree
Primary Schools: Where Students Come From
Students who attend Cathkin High School come from several local primary schools. These are often called "feeder schools" because they send their students to Cathkin High.

- Hallside Primary School (from Drumsagard Village)
