Catwalk was a Canadian TV show about music and drama. It aired on the YTV network from 1992 to 1994. The show had 49 episodes. In the United States, the first season was shown through different TV stations. The second season was shown on MTV.

What is Catwalk About?

The Band's Journey

The series followed six young adults who formed a band called Catwalk. The show focused on their lives and how they tried to get a record deal. They also performed their music in nightclubs. Their main meeting spot was a cool loft in the city.

Characters and Relationships

Johnny Camden (Keram Malicki-Sanchez) was the singer and guitarist. He was a main character, and the band often practiced in his loft. Relationships were also a big part of the show. Daisy (Neve Campbell), the keyboard player, dated Billy K., the band's manager. Mary (Kelli Taylor), the bassist, dated Jesse (Paul Popowich), the drummer. Their relationship was special because Mary was biracial and Jesse was white. They faced challenges and broke up before the first season ended.

A Unique Look

The show had a modern and somewhat futuristic style. It used dark lighting and flashing white lights. This gave Catwalk a very distinct and cool visual feel.

New Faces in Season Two

In the second season, a new character named Maggi (Nicole de Boer) joined the show. She had a brief connection with Johnny Camden in the first season. This caused some drama within the band.

Meet the Cast and Characters

  • Lisa Butler played Sierra Williams. She was the strong lead singer. In the second season, she also played keyboards.
  • Neve Campbell played Daisy McKenzie. She was the keyboard player and was a bit naive. She was only in the first season.

  • Keram Malicki-Sanchez played Johnny Camden. He was the band's driven leader and guitarist, appearing only in the first season.

  • J. H. Wyman played Billy K. He was the band's manager and owned a nightclub.
  • David Lee Russek played Frank Cafla. He was a singer with a great voice and joined in the second season.
  • Nicole de Boer played Maggie Holden. She became Billy K.'s girlfriend after Daisy left. She appeared in the second season, but also in one episode of the first season.
  • Rob Stefaniuk played Benny Doulon. He was a guitarist who replaced Johnny in the band for the second season.

Music from Catwalk

Behind the Songs

The music for the first season of Catwalk was created by Rupert Gayle and Orin Isaacs. For the second season, when the show aired on MTV, the music was handled by Steve Tyrell and his late wife, Stephanie Tyrell. They also worked on music for other TV shows like The Heights and California Dreams.

The 1994 Soundtrack Album

A soundtrack album from the second season was released by Atlantic Records. It featured songs from the show's stars, like Lisa Butler and Barry Coffing (who sang for the character Frank Cafla). The album also included music from other popular artists such as Jamie Walters, Vonda Shepard, Buffalo Tom, The Lemonheads, and Intro.

Why Catwalk Ended

The first season of Catwalk was shown again on YTV in Canada for four years in a row. This season had 24 episodes. Most of the second season episodes were never shown. This was because of a disagreement over rights between MTV Networks and the show's original creator, Adam Kidron. Because of this, many episodes from the second season have not been seen by the public.
