The Cavée River is a freshwater stream in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the Lac-Jacques-Cartier area. This area is part of the La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality. The river is a branch, or tributary, of the Rivière Jacques-Cartier Nord-Ouest. It also flows through the beautiful Jacques-Cartier National Park.
The main activity in this area is forestry, which means managing forests for wood. Tourism, like visiting for fun, is also very important.
The Cavée River usually freezes over from early December to late March. However, it's safest to walk or play on the ice from late December to early March.

Where the Cavée River Flows
The Cavée River is surrounded by other important bodies of water. These are called watersheds.
- To the north: Gratia stream, Rivière aux Écorces du Milieu, Métabetchouane East River.
- To the east: Jacques-Cartier River, Launière River.
- To the south: Rivière Jacques-Cartier Nord-Ouest, Petit lac Jacques-Cartier.
- To the west: Métabetchouane East River, Métabetchouane River.
The Cavée River starts at Rieutard Lake. This lake is about 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi) long. It sits high up, at an altitude of 808 metres (2,651 ft). Rieutard Lake gets its water from several other lakes. These include Mérillon, Dugas, de la Rocaille, Hardy, Joug, and Dan lakes.
From Rieutard Lake, the Cavée River flows for about 30.3 kilometres (18.8 mi). During its journey, the river drops 135 metres (443 ft) in height.
The River's Journey
The river's path can be split into two main parts:
Upper Part of the River
This part of the Cavée River flows for about 17.7 kilometres (11.0 mi).
- It starts by flowing south through a steep valley for 4.4 kilometres (2.7 mi).
- Then, it crosses two lakes: Lavigne Lake (2.0 kilometres (1.2 mi) long) and Dahous Lake (1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) long). Lavigne Lake gets water from several smaller lakes.
- Next, it flows through Lac Soucy for about 0.9 kilometres (0.56 mi).
- Finally, in this upper section, it crosses Chagnon Lake for about 1.0 kilometre (0.62 mi).
Lower Part of the River
The lower part of the Cavée River is about 12.6 kilometres (7.8 mi) long.
- It flows south through Lake Bakys for 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi).
- The river then continues south for 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi), where it makes a bend.
- It flows south again for 4.7 kilometres (2.9 mi), forming a loop to the east. Here, it meets water from lakes Léo, Petit lac Léo, and Bill.
- The river finishes its journey by flowing south for another 2.9 kilometres (1.8 mi) until it reaches its mouth.
After the Cavée River joins the Rivière Jacques-Cartier Nord-Ouest, its water continues to flow. It then joins the Jacques-Cartier River. Eventually, all this water flows into the Saint Lawrence River.
