The Story of Cedarville
Cedarville was located in the Deer Trail area of southern Stevens County. It was also known as Cedar Canyon.
How Cedarville Began
Cedarville started in the 1890s. People discovered silver nearby, and that's why the town grew. Miners and their families moved there, hoping to find their fortune.
Life in a Mining Town
By 1897, Cedarville was a busy place. It had a hotel, a general store, and a stable for horses. There was even a small school made of logs for children. The town also had four saloons. When the population reached about 300 people, Cedar Canyon became known as Cedarville. For 18 years, it was a lively mining town.
Why Cedarville Became a Ghost Town
Cedarville's life depended on the silver mines. By 1911, most of the silver was gone. Without silver to mine, people started to leave. The town slowly became empty and deserted. Today, Cedarville is a ghost town, a reminder of its mining past.
