College Football Career
Hardman played college football at North Texas State University. This school is now known as the University of North Texas. He was an All-Missouri Valley Conference defensive lineman. This means he was one of the best defensive players in his college league.
Amazing Sack Records
In his senior year, Hardman set an amazing record. He recorded 30 sacks in one season! This included a game where he had 11 sacks against Tulsa. That's a lot of sacks in just one game!
After his college season, Hardman played in two all-star games. These were the Blue-Gray and Senior Bowl games in 1970. He was named the defensive most valuable player in both games. He recorded 4 sacks in each of these games. If you include these all-star games, Hardman had 38 sacks in his final year at North Texas.
Playing with a Legend
During his first two years at North Texas, Hardman played alongside "Mean" Joe Greene. Greene later became a famous player and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Imagine playing on the same defense as a future legend!
Hardman started his college career as a defensive back. He then moved to linebacker in his second year. For his last two college years, he played as a defensive end. His talent led him to be chosen early in the 1970 NFL draft. The San Francisco 49ers picked him as the ninth overall player.

He was chosen for the Pro Bowl twice. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in the league in 1971 and 1975. After joining the Raiders, he became a Super Bowl XV champion. His team won the Super Bowl, which is the biggest championship in American football.
