Cerro Castor is a famous ski resort located in Argentina. It sits on the southern side of Mount Krund. This amazing place is only about 26 kilometres (16 mi) (16 miles) from the city of Ushuaia. Ushuaia is in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego.

What makes Cerro Castor special? It's the southernmost ski resort in the world! This means it's closer to the South Pole than any other ski area. Because of its super cold location, you can ski here for many months. The main ski season usually runs from June to October. This is the longest ski season among the big ski centers in Argentina.

Cerro Castor first opened its doors in 1999. It has grown a lot since then! The resort offers many fun things to do for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

Ski Lifts and Trails

The resort has a great system of ski lifts to take you up the mountain. There are:

These lifts can carry up to 9,500 people every hour! Cerro Castor has 31 different trails for skiing and snowboarding. These trails cover about 30 kilometres (19 mi) (18.6 miles). The total skiable area is huge, about 650 hectares (1,600 acres) (1,600 acres). The mountain has a vertical drop of 800 meters (2,625 feet).

In 2012, Cerro Castor hosted the FIS Freestyle Slopestyle World Cup. This event was organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). It was also a qualifying competition for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Athletes from all over the world came to compete!

Interski Congress and World Cup

Cerro Castor also hosted the Interski Congress and World Cup. This event was organized by the International Ski Instructors Association. It took place from September 5 to 12, 2015. This was a very special event because it was the first time this association held its event in the Southern Hemisphere!
