Cerro Catedral is a famous mountain in Patagonia, Argentina. It's about 19 kilometers (12 miles) from the city of San Carlos de Bariloche and is part of the beautiful Nahuel Huapí National Park.
This mountain is home to one of the most important ski resorts in South America. It has a huge area for skiing, about 6 square kilometers (2.3 square miles), with 120 kilometers (75 miles) of ski runs. The ski lifts can carry 35,000 skiers every hour! People also love visiting for the amazing views of the Nahuel Huapi lake. At the base of the mountain, you'll find many hotels and hostels. There's even a hut for hikers called Refugio Lynch near the top.
During the summer, two other huts, Refugio Frey and a camping area, welcome hikers and rock climbers. They are located next to the Tonček lagoon, close to Torre Principal, which is the highest point of Cerro Catedral. In 2005, Cerro Catedral hosted the first South American Ski Mountaineering Championship.
