Río Negro is a province of Argentina. It is at the northern edge of Patagonia. To the east is the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is Viedma. Other important cities include the ski resort town of Bariloche, Cipolletti and General Roca.
Ferdinand Magellan was the first explorer to visit the coasts of the provinces in 1520.
The province makes almost 70% of the apples and pears of the country. Industrial fishing takes place in the Atlantic Ocean waters of the San Matías Gulf. Hake, squid, and shellfish are the most common capture.
